Family Guy Theme Song
You know, just until, oh, THIS SECOND I was totally misunderstanding the lyrics in the Family Guy Theme Song. That one part where Stewie breaks in? It’s actually “…laugh and cry!”, and this whole time I thought he was saying “…’effin DIE!” Which, actually, would make more sense. Anyway, here’s the lyrics to the Family Guy song:

i love family guy i watchit every day at 5:30 weeknights on the comedy chanell or on sundays i watch it at 8:00 on fox 8 i ecpeccially like the episode where Bryan becomes Chrises teacher and one of those nights there sitting at the table eating tea then chris says that Bryan gave him a bad grade and Peter says:do u know what we used to do if a teacher gave us a bad grade we egg their house then they went out with 24 eggs and started throughing eggs at their house then bryan came out and said:what are u doing then peter and chris run away over the street

My mum said she dosn’t like Family Guy. She saids it not funny, even my dad agrees. But I think it’s really funny! I LOVE IT! FAMILY GUY ROKS! I watch it on The Comedy channel +2 at 6:30pm and on FOX8 at 8:00. FOX8 doesn’t play it rarly.

In the first few series the theme song did actually say “effin die!” but then they changed it to “laugh and cry ” probably after being cancelled numerous times. lame lol. love family guy xxx

There was a huge debate for about a year on whether Stewie said says “Laugh and cry!” or “Effin’ cry!” But thanks you guys, I can offically say I WIN THE ARGUEMENT!

Actually it is ‘effin’ cry’ in the early episodes but they changed it after 2001 to ‘laugh ‘n’ cry’.

Actually, the best part of Family Guy is when they do all those off tangent jokes. In addition, I like anything that has to do with Stewie, especially since everyone except for Brian can understand him, other than the off-tangent characters.
And for the earlier poster, “effing die” means (f-word-ing) die. I don’t think I need to spell it out further.

I think family guy ROCKS!!! I watch it every day on FX+2 at 11pm. One of my favourite bits is when they all have super-powers and stewie bicks up a tree and fires it at chris!!! Ha ha

My wife says the theme song says ‘effin’ CRY’. I say that the theme song says ‘laugh and CRY’ (stewies part).
It most definitely is NOT ‘effin DIE’. Listen to it again and you will at least agree that much.
How can we resolve this? When I google ‘family guy theme song lyrics’ etc., I get contradicting information.
My family is really distraught about this. In fact, one of the 416 children here at our compound in Texas, called the authorities who have raided our compound, all over this issue. In fact, all of my other wives agree that this is a silly issue that we should not be disputing.
So PLEASE PLEASE help me resolve this dispute! Is is ‘effin’ cry’ or ‘laugh and cry’ ?????? Inquiring minds want to know!

Actually, I tend sometimes to watch with the sound lower and the closed captioning on and I’ve seen Stewie’s bit captioned as BOTH “Effin’ Cry” and “Laugh and Cry” in different episodes. Could it be they changed it maybe during the hiatus? Or randomly switch back and forth to drive us nuts? (nuttier?)

Because so many people thought Stewie sang “effin’ cry!” instead of “Laugh and cry” in the opening sequence (to the extent UK broadcaster Channel 4 would edit the line so Stewie would only be heard saying “Cry”, and some versions of subtitles stating “F-in’ cry!”), Seth MacFarlane resang that line to make it clearly “laugh and cry”. The rerecording first appeared at the beginning of “The Kiss Seen Around the World” and remained through the end of season three, but the original recording returned when the show resumed airing on Fox in 2005, and has remained since.

I suspect Seth fully intended it to be ambiguous - effin Cry is certainly more “Stewie”, but it’s convenient to have the more socially acceptable Laugh and Cry to fall back on.
