Stewie’s teeth attempt to bite his tongue - Family Guy Season 1

In this clip from Family Guy Season 1, Stewie is painfully teething, with first one evil tooth popping out and then another right behind it. Honestly, I can hardly watch this clip without cringing - teeth moving around, urgh! This clip reminded me of that one Ren and Stimpy episode, where Ren gets a toothache and learns the benefits of dental hygiene the hard way, as he refuses to listen to Stimpy’s advice on brushing your teeth (Ren and Stimpy First and Second Season).

Seth MacFarlane talks about Family Guy Season 7!!!

Family Guy season 7 couldn’t come soon enough (September), especially after this last season with the writer’s strike muffing most of the new episodes we were really looking forward too. Seth’s given us a few details about season 7 of Family Guy; here’s what he had to say:

On Stewie being gay or not gay

“Most likely,” MacFarlane said in response to the Stewie/gay question, “in some way it’s going to be worked into the plot of the ‘Family Guy’ movie if we ever have the time to get it off the ground,” MacFarlane said.

On the talking bear in the Cleveland spin-off

“It’ll be worth it. You’ll love the talking bear, believe me,” he said.

On possible crossovers

“Crossovers are cool” — but added that his place on “Family Guy” would be taken by another character. Who? No decision yet in the long term.

On Brian getting more story time

“We’re going to pump Brian up a little more,” MacFarlane said. “He’ll be the one who hangs out with the guys at the bar.”

On why Cleveland was chosen for the spinoff

MacFarlane said he’s often asked why Clevelandwas chosen for the spinoff and not Quagmire, the lecherous airline pilot. “This is not a guy you want to invite into your hone on a weekly basis,” he said.

He said that Cleveland had opportunities for heartfelt moments as a character was “so complex and tortured and introspective.”

Seth MacFarlane has inked a deal with Google to distribute animated Web series

LAFF Screening Of "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" - Arrivals

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has inked a historic deal with Google to distribute an animated Web series.

This would be the first actual content that Google has underwritten to distribute on the Web. The series will start in September, and is titled “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade Of Cartoon Comedy”. Here’s how it’s going to work:

Starting in September, Google (NSDQ: GOOG) plans to distribute “Cavalcade” video clips through AdSense, placing the videos on select sites in its publisher network. As the Times describes it, Google will try integrating MacFarlane’s cartoon with several video ad formats, including pre-roll ads and banners. - source

Some people believe this this is a bad idea; I completely disagree, since the people who love Family Guy - in other words, you and me - will go out of our way to find these videos, wherever they might be. This is a win-win situation for Google and Seth.

Family Guy is among Emmy contenders in the Comedy category

Family Guy is among the top ten comedy and drama shows favored to get Emmy nominations this year. The following shows haven’t been “officially” nominated, but they’re being released as in the running TO be nominated, in order to stave off wild rumors that went around the Interwebs last year, apparently. These shows will go on to two Blue Ribbon Panel screenings to be conducted throughout this weekend (June 28-29). The results of each panel will represent 50% percent of the vote and will be averaged together to determine the five nominees in each category. (you can read more about this somewhat complicated process here). Okay, so here are the ten nominations:

Official Emmy nominations will come out July 17.

Chitty Chitty Death Bang, Family Guy Season 1

Episode 3 of Family Guy Season 1, “Chitty Chitty Death Bang”, is absolutely one of my favorite Family Guy episodes. I have watched this one probably a dozen times and still get a laugh out of all the cult references, Meg’s efforts to make friends, and Stewie’s interactions with other babies. Here’s the episode details:

Peter allows Meg to go to a party with her new friend. This angers Lois because it’s the same day as Stewie’s birthday, and she wants the whole family to be together. What Meg doesn’t know is that she’s actually attending a cult meeting. Peter then comes to pick up Meg. However, the cult leader follows. Stewie believes him to be the “Man in White”, trying to return him to the womb.

Chitty Chitty Death Bang quotes

Peter: Hey, Lois, look! The two symbols of the Republican party: an elephant and a big fat white guy who’s threatened by change.

Stewie: What do you want?
Man in White: I want to get the hell out of here!
Stewie: Oh, I’m sorry, We’re fresh out of that, but what I can give you is UNTIMELY DEATH!

Stewie: The ruptured capillaries in your nose belie the clarity of your wisdom.

Stewie: I say, am I to spend the entire day wallowing around in my own feces? A little service here.
Peter: Hey stinky. Have we got big plans for you.
Stewie: Plans? What the devil are you talking about?

Jesus: Okay everybody, for my next miracle, I’m going to turn water…into funk!

I Never Met The Dead Man - Family Guy Season 1

“I Never Met The Dead Man”, from Family Guy Season 1, has some great interaction between Meg and Peter Griffin, since Peter slams into the town’s cable receiver and blames it all on Meg:

After taking Meg out for a driving lesson, Peter manages to smash the car into Quahog’s TV transmitter, knocking out the entire town’s reception. After first going through some intense withdrawal, Peter soon comes to enjoy living a life that doesn’t revolve around the tube. His new high-activity lifestyle is wearing out the rest of the family, however, so they try to find a way to bring Peter back to the couch.

A few good quotes from “I Never Met The Dead Man”:

Tom Tucker: Because of an accident today at the Quahog cable company, all television transmission will be out for an undetermined amount of time. Of course, no one can see this news program, so it doesn’t really matter what we say. I’m the Lord Jesus Christ. I think I’ll go get drunk and beat up some midgets, how about you, Diane?
Diane Simmons: Well, Tom, I just plain don’t like black people.
Camera man: Hey guys, we’re still on in Boston.

Peter: Lois, you’ve got a sick mind!
Lois: Peter, I’m talking about making love.
Peter: Oh, I thought you wanted us to murder the children and harvest their organs for beer money.

Tom Tucker: Well Diane, that last report was so good I think you deserve a spanking.
Diane: Oh Tom, I don’t think your wife would appreciate that.
Tom: Haha, that frigid old cow lives in Quahog she can’t hear a word I’m saying.
Camera Guy: Actually, we’re back on the air in Quahog.

Peter: Sorry Meg. Daddy loves ya, but Daddy also loves Star Trek, and in all fairness, Star Trek was here first.

Peter: Let’s play a game called Takin’ the Fall for Daddy. If you win, I’ll buy you a convertible when you get your license.
Meg: Really? Oh Daddy, now I love you again.
Peter: Oh, you’re gonna make some Jewish guy a great wife.

Lois: Now kids, your father’s just trying to spend time with his family. Or kill us. I’m not sure which.

Lois: I know you don’t like broccoli Stewie, but you’ll thank me when you grow up big and strong like your father.
Stewie: A compelling argument. You’ve swayed me, woman. Mmmm. That is good. Oh I feel stronger already. Mmmm it’s good tasting and good for you.

And of course, you can watch it here: I Never Met the Dead Man. Enjoy!

Would George Carlin have created Family Guy if he had had the chance?

George Carlin Signs Copies Of Her New Book "All My Stuff"
Image details: George Carlin Signs Copies Of Her New Book "All My Stuff" served by picapp.com

Interesting article in CanWest this week on how (among other things, mostly how horribly offensive Family Guy is, blah blah blah) recently deceased comedian George Carlin might have, if given the chance, created Family Guy himself. Here’s a snippet:

Unapologetically irreverent. Questioning authority and making it funny. Finding out where the line is, and then deliberately crossing it. A thorn in the side of popular culture.

That could easily describe the late comedian George Carlin, who passed away last week from heart failure at age 71. Fans of Family Guy know, however, that it just as easily describes the cult animated TV hit created by Seth MacFarlane. Had Carlin been born a generation earlier, and had he been a TV comedy writer rather than a standup comedian, social satirist and professional curmudgeon, he may well have created Family Guy himself.

I actually tend to agree with this conclusion; George Carlin’s humor has definitely been passed on to Family Guy and Seth MacFarlane; hopefully, Seth and the gang will keep it as relevant and thought-provoking as George always managed to do.

Death has a Shadow - Family Guy Season 1

stewie-nc.png“Death Has a Shadow”, from Family Guy Season 1, is in my opinion one of the best Family Guy episodes ever. Here’s the quick synopsis:

After Peter heavily drinks at a bachelor party, even though he told Lois he would not, he gets fired from his job at the Happy-go-Lucky toy factory for being hung over. Peter soon applies for welfare, but after a mix-up, gets sent a check for $150,000. Eventually, Lois finds out, and Peter decides to return the money by dumping it from a blimp at the Super Bowl. He is arrested as a result, and his family ends up coming to his rescue.

My favorite moments? Peter water-skiing in the moat he builds around the family home, and Lois enjoying the statue of David by Michelangelo. Here are some of the best quotes:

Peter: (To the kids) Not a word to your mother about my getting canned.
Lois: What?
Peter: Nothing. Ooh, the lost-my-job smells great!
Lois: Excuse me?
Peter: Uh…Meg, honey, could you please pass the fired-my-ass-for-negligence?
Lois: Peter, are you feeling okay?
Peter: What are you talking about, Lois? I feel great. I haven’t got a job in the world!

Jan: Mom, Dad, I found cigarettes in Greg’s jacket.
Mike: Greg were you smoking cigarettes?
Greg: No Dad.
Mike: Well he’s lying. There’s no doubt about that. Greg I’m afraid your punishment will be 4 hours in the snake pit. Maybe that’ll give you some time to think about what you’ve done.
Greg: Aw man.
Jan: That’ll teach him.
Mike: And Jan I’m afraid you’ve earned a day in the Chamber of Fire for tattling on your brother.

Herbert and Radiohead - separated at birth?

Herbert, the creepy old man in Family Guy, sounds EXACTLY like the lead singer of Radiohead. Listen first to this Radiohead song, sung by Thom Yorke:

Now Herbert:

I don’t think I can listen to my Best of Radiohead CD quite the same way again.
